Mohammed Dajani is the Founder and CEO of Tanreea, a non-profit charity organisation based in Gaza which aims to provide medical care for those in need.
Describing his time in Gaza, Mohammed says: “I saw the damage caused by the Israeli blockade and experienced the pain of the civilians who are forced to live in these circumstances. I saw the siege and the rocket fire with my own eyes. This is why I created Tanreea to provide medical care to those who have been injured.”
Having started working with the food and fuel shortages in Gaza, Mohammed came to recognise that, while these were important issues, they were not the only issues facing the residents.
“Gaza is not just a political issue, it is a humanitarian issue and the blockade is the root cause of many of the problems that people face every day.”
A large proportion of people in Gaza are the poorest and most vulnerable in the region. Tanreea aims to provide medical treatment that they cannot afford.
Mohammed says: “In Gaza, you cannot turn on the television without seeing a heartbreaking image of the kids playing with the rubble after the bombs have been dropped. We want to try to offer some relief and relieve the hopelessness that the constant bombardment leaves people with.”
Despite facing the constant threat of rockets, Mohammed’s team have continued to provide services and have completed hundreds of surgeries and carried out dozens of other procedures, including reconstructive surgery.
