Shell script to compare date string to current date
I have a file with a list of date strings like this
20120101
20120102
20120103
20120104
20120105
20120106
20120107
20120108
20120109
I would like to compare the dates in the file with the current date and produce an output that looks like this:
20120101 1
20120102 0
20120103 0
20120104 0
20120105 0
20120106 0
20120107 0
20120108 0
20120109 0
As you can see, the first field is the date of the file, and the second is the number of days since the last update of that file.
I have written a shell script that does the job, but it uses the date command.
#!/bin/bash
for i in `cat FILE`
do
dateString=${i}
#echo "$dateString"
#echo $(( $(date +%s) - $(date +%s) + $(date +%s) ))
date -d "$dateString" +%s
#echo "$dateString"
#echo $(( $(date +%s) - $(date +%s) + $(date ac619d1d87
