Macintosh computers make it possible to change the audio settings on a Mac Mini through System Preferences. Chances are, the settings on your optical audio output or input are not set up properly if you are experiencing issues. Businesses that use the Mac Mini for video or audio editing applications need to know how to troubleshoot and correct sound issues on a Mac Mini for the best results. If after troubleshooting, the audio still doesn't work, consult an authorized Apple retail store to see about repair possibilities.
Sound For Mac Mini
Click on the "Format" drop-down menu and set it to 44100.0 Hz. While your MacBook can play at higher frequencies, it is best to make sure it can play at standard CD quality which is 44100.0 Hz. Set the next drop-down menu to 2ch-16bit Integer. This provides you with full CD-quality sound.
It sounds as though the M1 Mac is not making a full connection from the Mac across your network to the Sonos using AirPlay 2. The link provided by Ken goes over a lot of ways to help work on that, but bottom line, try rebooting all devices.
I would like to remove the startup sound of my Mac Mini G4 (PowerPC). I know this is possible if I boot from a MacOSX system, however I reformatted my system from the original MacOSX for ppc with a debian/powerpc system.
If your Mac has an Intel chip and you want to reset its PRAM, begin by restarting your Mac, then immediately press the Option + Command + P + R keys simultaneously. Keep holding those four keys down for about 20 seconds. During that time, your Mac might restart and you might hear the startup sound play more than once. After that, your PRAM should have been reset.
Keep in mind that a PRAM reset may also change some of your other settings in addition to rebooting your sound. You may need to spend some time in System Settings to reset any of the customized settings you had before.
If your tests have revealed that sound problems are primarily located in Safari, this may be another settings problem. In this case, the sound will probably work in other browsers like Chrome but not in Safari.
If you are a veteran macOS or Apple user, chances are that you have had to deal with the time-consuming nature of repairing kinks that come with updating Apple apps. If you still experience macOS sound problems, AirPlay issues, or other audio complications, make sure you update your Mac to the latest version. You might have to wait for Apple to release patches that fix these problems, but in the meantime, you can search the help topics to see if anyone has found a workaround while waiting for the patch.
Thanks. That sounds wonderfull excempt that in my case I have never been able to see the Sonos device on that output list. I see all other airplay devices, apple tv and so on. But never the sonos. Have gone through resseting, etc. and nothing. It is a Sonos one2 gen.
I would like to know as well. I noticed the cracking sound when watching a concert on Youtube yesterday. I thought it was a recording problem. I then chose another concert, it was the same. Very annoying!
Catalina has a big issue with CoreAudio this time or I don't know exactly what it is. But if you are not producing music like me switch it to 48 kHz. I think it can help but is not fix the problem. Over 6 months Catalina is still stuck with this sound issue, especially people like me with brand new MCP16 inches.
P.S. I have seen this problem with cracking and popping sound from EL CAPITAN. Every new MAC OS has this problem I don't know what is wrong, hardware, or OS but absolutely every time when the new OS is come out this problem is like some that are created to be like that, always. ? But this time it looks very long time to be fixed and there is no solution at the moment.
@MC: Is the current situation between Mac mini and USB-2 audio interfaces (in my case Digiface USB) something that can be fixed by Apple via software or is it a hardware issue? Suggestion a thunderbolt 3 dock as workaround makes me think of hardware issues inside the Mac mini.
I haven't been able to reproduce same stutters though with my new laptop that where occuring with the older one, only audio drops. In Live I was able to get the whole audio to stutter to the point the machine could barely play sound at all anymore. That has not happen with the new machine with the same projects. This was making me going nuts since it seemed that there was not any rational pattern for that to happen. Sometimes everything worked fine with the load and sometimes even just opened computer started stuttering right from the opening of the project.
All the problems started maybe a year or so ago and I've been experiencing these performance and drop out/stutter issues in our studio too where we have UC and FF800 connected to our laptops via TB hub. I have been suspecting that by that time some firmware update came and did something to the 2015 MBP's which made them unreliable with the audio softwares, sound cards and devices like that, maybe or maybe not, cant tell for sure.
There is no garbled audio anymore with our latest driver, but still clicks and mini drop outs. Check more thoroughly. And you don't use Thunderbolt but USB-C. You posted here without reading this thread?
Hey Carsten, don't know if anybody has asked this before, but does Apple know about this issue? Are they working on it? Right now my MacBook Pro is not useable for the task I bought it for: mobile recording. I'm really thinking about getting rid of it again as my Late 2012 Mac mini handles my old projects much better than my new MBP 2018. But if I knew that Apple will someday come up with a solution I might wait a little longer. Thanks in advance!
As Matthias mentioned, if Apple is aware of the issue and haven't bothered with a fix in 6 months, I'm wondering if I should just return the mini. Buying a TB3 dock seems like the only other solution at this point.
Mac mini 2018 with 802 here. I purchased caldigit hub and connected by USB to th3. All seems to be ok at 44.1 but dont work at 88.2khz (no problem with the same project with core audio and mac mini speaker...). If i connect the 802 direct to mac usb inputs works ok...maybe ive to return the caldigit and test firewire to th3 dongle.
Audio glitches, bugs after updating your operating system, problems with connecting an external audio device, or sound not working at all are some of the common issues reported on Mac. Even misconfigured apps or incorrect settings can result in audio glitches.
Third-party plugins that integrate with your Mac can cause the sound to not work properly. Musicians and sound engineers are usually particularly cautious of this because there are often hardware and software incompatibilities with a new release of macOS. Major upgrades should not be taken lightly, you must have a backup of audio files.
NVRAM is a small amount of memory that your Mac uses to store various types of settings, including sound volume, display resolution, startup disk selection, the time zone, and more. Resetting the NVRAM can help clear up glitches. Follow our guide to reset NVRAM and SMC in Intel Macs.
Ensure that your equipment is compatible. Some older components might be unable to receive audio via an HDMI connection, even though your Mac and other devices can play sound through it. Note that older MacBook models (from before 2011) do not support passing audio through the Mini DisplayPort.
Launch the Audio MIDI Setup app. Select the HDMI option from the left panel and choose your TV from the Output tab. If you cannot see the speaker icon next to HDMI, click the cog button and select Use this device for sound output.
I couldnt get sound to my External speaker that are connected via the 6,3 mm Analog plugs. The DNxID is getting sound, i can see the audio Levels and i was able to run it the years prior on 2 difffernt Macs without a problem.
Yes, the sound is coming via thunderbolt 3 from the mac mini to the DNxID, from there the sound goes to 6,5mm plug to an XLR cable then into the mixer and from the Mixer also through XLR to the Speakers.
Sounds to me like something in your mixer routing is off. Perhaps it is directing the sound from the DNxID to a Bus or Aux output, rather than to the main speakers? Can you hook up any other source to the same mixer inputs you want to use for the DNx and see if that signal comes through? I mean, you'll have to walk down the entire chain to see where the culprit is, I guess.
The speakers in the mini are very tinny in sound and I would like to buy speakers that has the same sound as my old iMac 27" that was built in 2010. An added plus would be that they are compatible with my Oticon bluetooth hearing aids. 2ff7e9595c
